Honored To Be Interviewed

I was recently contacted by Ed Wedman at Exhibitions Without Walls to do an interview about my HDR and photography work. It was just published October 9th. They promote photographers and digital artists on their website and also hold juried competitions throughout the year. Stop by there and check it out.

Nighttime at Disney’s Magic Kingdom is truly a magical experience. As a photographer walking around a theme park in the middle of the night, I was on a mission. I had envisioned this scene before so I knew how I wanted to shoot it.

This shot was taken minutes before the shot in this post – Liberty Belle – about 13 minutes to be exact. It’s the entryway to the Be Our Guest Restaurant. With the gates closed and no people in sight, I knew it was time to get this picture. I really liked the way the lights were “spilling” onto the walls and the ground before me. Interesting shadows, textures, and details stood out in this scene and I knew that I wanted to capture them. The purple glow from other lights illuminating the trees seemed to add an air of mystery.

On a walk around downtown Tampa, Florida last year, I found a lot of interesting architecture. Armed with my camera and tripod, I set out to capture the beauty of this city. Now normally I drive through the area, casually glancing out the windows and catching some of the buildings,  but parking the car and walking around for a few hours gives a completely different perspective. There are so many things that you just don’t see while behind the wheel. Plus it’s great exercise!

As I was strolling down the street, I came across this building. What struck me most was the rich texture of the red brick facade. It popped out between the other buildings. Traffic was minimal as this was taken on a Saturday, so I didn’t have to worry about too many pedestrians or cars moving through the shot. The reflections in the windows were an added bonus.

This building houses a cafe and a restaurant on the bottom floor and a law firm on the 2nd and 3rd floors. For a little bit of history about this building click here – 110 East Madison.

Silver Bullet

In a recent blog post – Vette Dreams – I had a picture of a shiny red Corvette with another car reflecting in the side of it. Today’s post shows the car that is in the reflection.

A 2014 Corvette Stingray, located at the end of the Test Track ride at Disney’s EPCOT Center. I really liked the play of light and shadow from the perfect angles of the very subdued lighting. The hint of purple lights caught my eye and I wanted to make sure it came through in the final image. The sharp curves and flowing lines let you know what this beast is made of. From the poster on the back left wall we get a glimpse of the front end. This car looks tough!

Liberty Belle

To celebrate the upcoming release of the Disney Pixar movie Monsters University on June 21st, Disney’s Magic Kingdom was open for 24 hours on May 24th. The fun began at 6 am Friday and ended at 6 am Saturday. Walking around a theme park during the middle of the night gives you a magical feeling. Everything just looks different for some reason.

I walked around with my camera gear all night so I could capture some different images. I saw the makings of this shot earlier in the evening, but the water wasn’t quite still enough to get this smooth reflection. At 3:21 am I got to take this shot. I couldn’t believe how calm the water was. This was exactly what I was looking for.

The boat is the Liberty Belle. It is what makes the Liberty Square Riverboat ride. It takes passengers on a scenic half-mile journey around Tom Sawyer island. Here is a link to the website for more information about this ride. The Haunted Mansion can be seen lit up in purple in the background.
