Giving Me The Eye

As I was browsing through my catalog of images over the weekend, I came across this one that I had never posted and wanted to share it.

During the beginning of March last year, I went to one of my favorite local parks to do some bird watching. The Osprey nesting season happens at this time of the year which makes for great photo opportunities. I always make sure to keep my distance so I don’t disturb them. I had been to this nest before, but it had been awhile. I walked down the trail and everything started to look familiar. I remembered exactly where it was and found my subject. I took pictures for about 30 minutes before mama decided to go back to her nest.

Osprey, also known as Fish Hawks, like to nest in tall trees and can usually be found close to water.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post and I encourage you to join the conversation by writing your thoughts below as I truly like to hear from all of my visitors! 🙂

    • Thanks so much Bella! The lighting was good timing as the sun was low in the sky. It was shot with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II and a Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III lens. I was zoomed all the way out at 300mm. And on a real good sturdy tripod! I hope the info helps. If you have any other questions feel free to ask away. I really appreciate you stopping by!

      • Really ? I’m shocked how sharp you got this with that lens! The tripod must have been the secret. I haven’t tried it on the 7D yet, I used it on my 60D and found it soft at 300mm. Glad I didn’t toss it out!

Love your photos, they are marvelous ! I need to concentrate more on mine. Not too happy with my Machu Picchu pics at all. Lighting wasn’t cooperative when I was there this time.

        • I know all of the reviews say it’s soft at 300mm. On the 5D I was using live view zoomed in and manually focusing on the eyes to make sure they were sharp. And that was at F/5.6! Thanks for the compliments on my photos. I have been enjoying your Peru pictures. Machu Picchu is someplace I have been longing to go to forever! And bad lighting can definitely be a bummer on a trip like that. But you got some great pictures from there!

  1. Hi,
What a gorgeous photo, he looks so majestic sitting up there in the tree like a king. I can even see his claws so clearly, and boy they do look sharp. 🙂
