Liberty Belle

To celebrate the upcoming release of the Disney Pixar movie Monsters University on June 21st, Disney’s Magic Kingdom was open for 24 hours on May 24th. The fun began at 6 am Friday and ended at 6 am Saturday. Walking around a theme park during the middle of the night gives you a magical feeling. Everything just looks different for some reason.

I walked around with my camera gear all night so I could capture some different images. I saw the makings of this shot earlier in the evening, but the water wasn’t quite still enough to get this smooth reflection. At 3:21 am I got to take this shot. I couldn’t believe how calm the water was. This was exactly what I was looking for.

The boat is the Liberty Belle. It is what makes the Liberty Square Riverboat ride. It takes passengers on a scenic half-mile journey around Tom Sawyer island. Here is a link to the website for more information about this ride. The Haunted Mansion can be seen lit up in purple in the background.

Vette Dreams

I’m back with a new blog post! Sorry for the hiatus everybody – I’ve been really busy with some new photography projects and I kind of put the blog on the back burner for a bit. But I promise to try and be around a little more to bring you new pictures! Okay back to today’s regularly scheduled program…

On a recent visit to EPCOT center in Florida I got to enjoy the new and improved Test Track ride. They went through an extensive redesign and I gotta say it’s really awesome! At the end of the ride they have a huge display area with new cars and even some prototypes. I was instantly drawn to the red Corvette with the way the lights were hitting it. It is a 2013 Corvette Grand Sport. In the reflection you can see another car next to it. A silver 2014 Corvette Stingray which I will bring to you in a future post. The posters on the wall in the background show a glimpse of this new beast!

Quiet Elegance

Welcome to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa! The architectural design of this place is a true marvel. On a recent visit to this spectacular hotel, I decided to wait around til later in the evening, hoping to capture some images without people. At 11:00 on a Sunday night, just about everyone had retired to their rooms after a full day of fun. I only had to wait a couple of minutes to get my shots. I love all of the details they put into the layout like the massive birdcage on the left or the giant urns on the table in front of me. And the lighting is unrivaled with those magnificent chandeliers! On the second floor in the back they have a band that plays a very nice variety of music throughout the day.

For this shot I setup my tripod down low to try and get as much in the frame as I could. Capturing the grand scale in a photo is almost impossible.

The Path of Love

In honor of Valentine’s Day, today’s post features a wedding gazebo with intricately cut hearts around the top.

Disney’s Boardwalk area is the setting for this image. A flower lined brick pathway leads to the gazebo with Disney’s Yacht Club Resort creating the perfect backdrop. I felt like I was walking into a painting. The lighting was perfect with the right mix of sun and clouds. All of the magnificent color was what initially drew my eye to this scene. After that it was just a matter of framing up all of the elements I liked.

The lamp-posts and the flower pots seemed to add just the right amount of decor to an already eye pleasing scene. The vibrant colors of the flowers and the awnings completed the picture.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

Big Wheels Keep on Turning

Today’s post is a fun image that was taken the same day as my post from The Boardwalk. While exploring Disney’s Pop Century Resort, which is themed around different era’s of the 50’s through the 90’s, I came around a corner and spotted this ginormous Big Wheel! Having fond memories of riding one of these when I was a kid, I was immediately transported back in time to my childhood. I used to love riding these things. The colorful plastic toy could keep a little one busy for hours.

I setup my tripod low to the ground to make sure the largeness of this awesome set of wheels was emphasized. I had to move around quite a bit until I found the composition I was looking for. I was drawn to the bright colors of this scene that just seemed to pop out.

Pictures can’t really do justice to the size of this but it is just about as tall as the four-story building behind it.

If you ever make a trip to Disney, be sure and stop by this resort. It is definitely worth a visit!
