A couple of weeks ago I went to the Florida National Cemetery to visit my grandparents’ grave site. Every time I am there I always think to myself how beautiful the place is and about taking pictures. I usually don’t get out my camera, but this time I did. With a little bit of a slope, I really thought this spot was very pretty with the overhanging tree and the shaded bench.
This was shot using an 8mm fisheye lens which gave it a little bit of a distorted look in the corners even after applying the lens correction in Lightroom.
This was taken at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. A beautiful and peaceful place dedicated to our heroes and their loved ones. Let us never forget.

It’s a beautiful shot…the slight distortion only adds to the point of view…almost like the essence of moving through time while remaining stationary…which might be appropriate, given the location…you were not moving, but the histories of the lived lives were flashing and moving around you…. I agree, a very nice spot indeed. A perfect place for the bench under such a magnificent tree, and I like the way the photo was taken as well, a great idea to have the tree in the front of the photo and the rest just fanned out, beautiful. 🙂

Thank you Mags! I fell in love with that bench as soon as I saw it! The shadows from the tree were just amazing. When I started shooting, the sun went behind the clouds and I liked the soft shadows better! I appreciate you stopping by and leaving your wonderful comments!

As a genealogist I’ve visited many cemeteries but I don’t think I’ve ever noticed one with a bench where visitors could sit and contemplate… The perspective in this shot is wonderful… The tree seems to be watching over the memories of the departed…

Not sure I agree with the comment about the crop. It would give more emphasis on the gravestones but one of the most important elements of the shot might be compromised. The 8mm lens distortions lend a tremendous energy and sense of motion to a shot that is by nature absolutely static. The clouds through the trees, even the uniform leaning of the gravestones. This makes the shot, in my opinion.

Hi Dennis, You bring up a very valid point. That is what I wanted to accomplish in this shot. I wanted to use the tree as a frame to push the viewer’s eye towards the bench and the headstones. I think the darkness of the tree adds some character overall, along with the clouds.
